QUEST for Que...a PHILOSOPHICAL introspection

TEAM IMPROVEMENT:  The GranPappy continued the quest to improve TELL YOU WHAT BBQ.com today.  Philosophical waxing to follow:
Now, as you know, in order to get better at ANYTHING you must put forth sufficient effort.  Tell You What BBQ is well aware of this fact - in ALL aspects of life.

Whether you are a 'novice' backyard Q'er or vying for the American Royal you MUST REALIZE that BBQ is a PASSION.  If you want to improve YOUR BBQ you must EAT MORE BBQ!!

As with ANYTHING in life, you don't just 'get better' -  ANY true Q'er will tell you that the MORE Que you eat the BETTER your food gets!!  (On the BBQ circuit the ol' phrase is "SKINNY TEAMS DON'T WIN" , not necessarily true but the premise is BIG teams 'practice'.)  It only makes sense.  You must constantly 'self assess'.  This goes with ANYTHING in life.  TYWBBQ.com spent a day this week 'working to improve' while eating at several places in NYC <see prior BLOG post>.  Last week, Coach HappyPappy was returning home from the NJ shore with his family. Coach Pappy 'smelled the smoke'.  Turns out, that smoke was 30 minutes off the parkway EACH WAY!  Added 2 hours to a 2 hour and 15 minute trip!!  ALL in the name of 'QueQuest'.  The desire to improve.

Today's we visited BARNSTORMER BBQ located in Fort Montgomery, NY.  Fort Montgomery is home to the most prestigious military academy in the world... the UNITED STATES MILITARY ACADEMY at West Point.  I know sailors and pilots may disagree!

VERY CLOSE to WEST POINT - USMA

The GranPappy had the pleasure to meet owner/pitmaster Geoff Provan.  Geoff has been 'in the smoke' since opening his first joint in 1998.  Same name -- now different location.  Geoff and I had a great conversation ranging from Mike Mills to the Big Apple BBQ to motorcycles.  The BBQ Community is a 'small world' and the degrees of separation are minimal.  My mother used to own a restaurant BONES in the late 80's - Geoff told me his PARENTS used to eat there!  Wow.

Let me say this, the GranPappy prefers his meat ..well, let me rephrase that, the GranPappy prefers to taste the BBQ NOT the sauce.  Pitmaster Geoff brought out the GranPappy a piece of 'money muscle' (pork) and brisket, both sans sauce.  {The majority of people up here in Yankee Country prefer their meat 'sauced', thus most places serve it that way.}

BOTH of these pieces very VERY moist and delicious.  The rub complemented the meat but did not overpower.  Geoff told me he has spent many years finalizing his brisket rub.  In fact, he was in the process of making up a batch.  "Hey Geoff, how bought hooking up TELL YOU WHAT BBQ with that rub!!"

It's ALWAYS GOOD to see CRAFT BEERS on TAP...NO not the SILVER BULLET!!!

If you are in the Hudson Valley in the area of Bear Mountain or West Point give BARNSTORMER BBQ a chance.  Tell them TELL YOU WHAT BBQ sent you!! Maybe THEN Geoff will give the GranPappy some help with that BRISKET!

SMOKE IT UP~~
